Transformed
into a butterfly, John takes flight. As with the meadow page, I
wanted the next few pages to be seen as through a butterfly's eyes: very
colorful, full of light, and vibrant.
This
was the second painting completed for the book. In the original
version of it, there were fewer butterflies, and the trees on the left
was lighter in value. After seeing it, both Bruce and Michael felt
that it needed more butterflies to convey the effect we
wanted. I wasn't sure at the time, but after finishing the cover
and a few other paintings where I did have more butterflies, I realized
they were right and added them in.
