This image went through two different sketches, the last of which is shown here.  You can see the other sketch, the photo reference and the initial thumbnails of this image in the "Process" section---where I followed its development from manuscript to the final book. 

 

Color Comp

Though this is one of my favorites from the book, and one of two that people really seem to respond to, it was one of the simpler ones to execute because I wasn't doing anything unusual with the color.
