The Wish
Sketch Color Comp Painting
Watercolor
A quiet little painting that I didn't expect much of beyond a nice chance to show the boy's profile. While it's hard to tell, the thing that makes this painting is the reflection of the arm in the window. It was a last minute addition, and it made all the difference in the world.
The lettering was fun, and challenging. I wanted the letters to feel like they could float, like smoke, and I did a lot of tests on scrap sheets of paper to get the effect. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. (I also like the blue glow in the side of the boy's face)
You can see the lettering is missing from the comp. Because the lettering had to be so delicate, I experimented with it on a separate sheet of paper, tinted dark blue like the painting, at full-size until I got the effect I wanted.
