This was the very first painting I completed for the book.  I did it first because the entire book represented a bit of a technical experiment for me.  This painting allowed me to try a few things to see how I wanted the book's images to feel.  This is actually the second version of this painting.  The first one is displayed with the prep work.

 

The ladybug makes another appearance in the Forgotten spread later in the book.
